I remember one Christmas when I was young, my parents were very poor. My father was a roofer and couldn't really work in bad winter weather. He would take all sorts of odd jobs to make sure we had electric on and sometimes we would have running water in the house. We moved all the time from one house to another and usually between two different little town. Well this one Christmas was something.
The snow had been coming down pretty hard when we were at school right before we let out for Christmas break. On the way home it was starting to get drifts on the back roads, that even the bus driver commented on the snow. By the time my younger brothers & sisters and myself got off the bus it was getting dark and the snow was getting pretty deep. As we walked up the drive we could see the smoke rising from the chimney and knew it would be warm in the house.
My father was home and had wood piled in the house for the night already, so my brothers didn't have to carry it in. Two days later on December 24th, it was my 12th birthday. My dad got up early and went to work in -5* weather. I for the life of me couldn't figure out why. Well...I found out why a few years ago.
My father went to work roofing a roof for a friend who needed it badly. They didn't know that WE needed the money from this job. They didn't know that there would not be any Christmas for his 5 children. My father got frostbite on his hands doing that job.
For Christmas I got some new crayons and a new dress, my sisters the same and the boys new jeans and crayons too. My father supplied a need. That need was gifts for his children although there was only 2 each. I remember that so vivid.
God sent His Son to earth as a gift for us. He gave His very best for us. He knew just what we needed. He supplied a way for my salvation. My Father knew what I needed before I even knew myself. The greatest gift that I have EVER received was the gift of Salvation.
Jesus didn't come just for me, He came for everyone. Salvation is free. FREE. All we have to do is ask for forgiveness, mean it that we are sorry for our sinful life, then accept the greatest gift of all time. JESUS.
