Holy Magic Hair. Is it Scriptural?

I belong to a group of Pentecost women who are Apostolic. One question was asked about cutting hair. A woman answered her stating that "A woman's hair is a hedge of protection for her family and home. Since I have never heard of that before nor have I ever read it in Scripture I decided to investigate this claim. It is also called Holy Magic Hair.....When you put the words "HOLY" and "MAGIC" together it automatically a red flag waving. So below is what I found.

Question: "What is holy magic hair?"

Answer:
The holy magic hair (HMH) doctrine is the rather sarcastic name given to the teaching that long, uncut hair on a woman provides her with supernatural power, protection, and authority. This aberrant teaching has gained momentum in the Apostolic, Holiness, and Oneness groups (which I am not any of these although I AM Pentecostal) within Pentecostalism. The holy magic hair doctrine is based largely on 1 Corinthians 11, which discusses head coverings for women, and especially verse 10, which says, “It is for this reason that a woman ought to have authority over her own head, because of the angels.”

It is best that 1 Corinthians 11 be interpreted within the context of the culture at that time. However, some Pentecostals firmly believe that Christian women should not cut their hair. Usually, the hair is kept up in a bun or braided. Of course, there is nothing wrong with a woman not cutting her hair, and we would never advocate a teaching that a woman must cut her hair; however, Paul’s words to the Corinthians should not be used as a mandate for all women. In fact, the word hair is not even found in 1 Corinthians 11:10.

According to the holy magic hair doctrine, a woman with long hair is being “watched  by angels” because of the “glory” of her long hair (see 1 Corinthians 11:15). And, when she lets down her hair, her glory increases, as does her supposed spiritual power. Believers in holy magic hair say that a woman can unravel her hair for greater miracles. If she lays it over an altar or over written prayer requests as she prays, her prayers are more likely to be answered. If she spreads her hair over a person, that person can receive the Holy Spirit more readily—the “laying on of hair,” as it’s called. A woman “shaking her hair in the wind” can guarantee all kinds of miraculous results, from the salvation of lost loved ones to the healing of diseases to the winning back of lost romantic affections. Holy magic hair even has power over evil spirits, and the devil fears the power of uncut hair.

According to the holy magic hair doctrine, if a woman cuts her hair, she loses her identity as an “apostolic woman,” loses authority in the spiritual realm, and puts herself and her family at risk. Women are warned that to cut their hair is to bring themselves to misery and regret. After the hair is cut, there is no way to get the original “anointing” back.

It should go without saying that the holy magic hair doctrine is unbiblical. The problem is there are sincere and well-meaning people who believe it. The practice of letting down one’s hair in order to receive more spiritual power has absolutely no scriptural authority and has more in common with Wicca and occultism than Christianity. External conditions do not automatically correspond with the internal. A woman with long hair can be eaten up with lust, hate, or envy on the inside. A woman with short hair can be filled with the fruit of the Spirit.

Power belongs to God (Psalm 62:11). Any power that we possess comes through the agency of the Holy Spirit in our lives. To trust in hair length, circumcision, or any other physical characteristic is to take away from our reliance upon God and our faith in Jesus Christ. Even in Samson’s case, the power was not from his hair but from the fact that “the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him” (Judges 15:14). There is always a tendency to lean on our own understanding and rely on ourselves. No matter how much anecdotal evidence is presented in its favor, holy magic hair is a deviant teaching that has no basis in Scripture. Let us be careful not to be “blown here and there by every wind of teaching” (Ephesians 4:14).

What do you consider Porn?

I'm sure you have heard about the movie "50 Shades of Grey" by now. This movie is based on the trilogy of books of the same name. I have to admit that I have not read the books. I started reading the first one but within a couple of pages I found smut.

What do you consider pornography? Is it only naked pictures or is it words that are put together to make you "feel" a certain way? We all know that nude photos, or almost nude photos are porn, but I happen to believe that the written word is much  MUCH more provocative.

Women are turned on more  by the written word than by pictures. Romance books are a multi-BILLION dollar business. They weave the bedroom scenes throughout the whole story. I know what I'm talking about because I have read them. I had 2 favorite Historical Romance authors that I really enjoyed reading. I  finally had to turn it all over to the Lord Jesus because it was out of control. You have heard the saying, "I can handle this. I can stop whenever I want to." This does not only apply to drinking or drugs, it applies to EVERYTHING.

Porn used to be only directed for a man, in secret. Now it is public and in your face.  That movie "50 Shades of Grey" will be out real soon. I will not watch it. Yesterday I heard some ladies talking about the fact that the lead character will not have any frontal nudity and they were upset. They WANTED to see a man like that. Why? Because, according to them, it is not right that they won't be able to "see" what this man looks like. My thought was, shame on you.

I am so blessed that Jesus took my desire to read this kind of smut away. What is written in those books about being intimate is NOT real. Intimacy is private and should stay between the husband and wife. People who truly love each other want to keep what they experience with each other private.

To good to not repeat a post.

Thoughts

Have you ever thought that God has told the enemy that He knows that you will stand in the face of adversity?

That is what I have felt like the past few weeks. There is an old saying...What don't kill you makes you stronger....well....what they didn't say is that you may feel like you are being killed. Some of the things that we go through are not our fault at all. Some of it is because the enemy wants to harm you.

Jesus wasn't spared from Satan tempting Him in the desert, so I wonder why we think we are better than Jesus. What makes us today, think that we are above being tempted? I can tell you why. It is because the majority of America who CLAIM to be Christians really are not. They have bought into the idea that there really ins't any evil in the world, only the evil that we humans make for ourselves.

People have turned away from the true teaching of the Word. It comes in all kinds of ways. Like the different religions. If you believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God and that he has been crucified on Calvary, died, was buried, and then rose on the 3rd day, and believe that your sins are forgiven by His shed blood, you are saved. That is it. Nothing else will get you into heaven.

Paul says that we can't EARN our salvation. James tells us that Faith without works is dead. This may seem like a contradiction but it is not. We can't BUY our way into heaven. We can't WORK our way into heaven.  Jesus said that the only way to the Father is through Jesus. BUT once we accept the forgiveness of Jesus and want to live for Him, we will do the work of "preaching" the gospel. Sowing seed, watering the seed, and harvesting the seed. It may not be anyone thing we do. The works we do here will be our crowns we will receive in heaven.

If a religion tells you that you have to WORK to be one of the FEW people to get to heaven, you are being lied to. If a religion tells you that you can go to a man and tell him things, and he has the power to FORGIVE you, you are being lied to. If a religion tells you that you have to be baptized right away and that you will never loose your salvation no matter WHAT you do, you are being lied to. If a religion tells you that you have to be baptized into THAT church to be a member, you are being lied to.

This is what is wrong. People only want to hear what they WANT to hear. The Bible says that people will have tickling ears. They will only listen to what they want to hear. People don't want to feel the conviction that comes with hearing the Word when it is spoken with determination, and love.

God is not only a God of love like people want to believe. He is also a Jealous God. He don't want to  send anyone to hell, and in truth He isn't, you are. If you don't trust God and want to live for Him, you are sending yourself to hell. God wants ALL of our praise and love and service. He is jealous. He says so Himself. "Thou shall have no other gods before me for I am a jealous God."

If God brings you to the troubling time, He will see you through the troubling time

2007 Poem I wrote.

A Poem

Far into the dark
Places of despair I go
Farther and farther

Downward I go fast
Until I can no longer
Stand on my own feet

Laying bloody and
Brusied, unrecognizable
From battles I fought

Protecting me from
An outright slaughter of faith
A light from above

Light piercing the dark
Growing brighter and brighter
helping me to stand

Angels surround me
With swords drawn at my defense
Giving me a hand.

Christ will not leave me
in the dark places alone
He will send angels

Heaven's warriors
Defending this child of God
Until I can stand

Trusting in Jesus
In face of persecution
Knowing He protects

Keeping me by faith,
The faith I was fighting for,
The Promise of Christ.

My future with Him
Is a surety of mine,
Praise the Lord, I'm free!

Kindle your Fire

When was the last time you kindled your fire? The fire you had when you were first saved? How do we rekindle the fire if it has grown cold?

Isaiah 50:11 says...

Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

I don't want to talk about the last part of the verse. I want to talk about the first part. Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks that ye have kindled.

Our fire should be burning so bright for the Lord that sparks fly through the air. You know like when you build a bond fire and the sparks flies off the large fire. THAT is how we should live our lives. My Grandmother has lived her life like this. People from all over know who she is. They know her life and the love she has for our Lord. They see the way she has worked for the past 40+ years to further the Kingdom of God. She WALKS in the sparks of the fire she tends to on a daily basis.

When you build a fire to warm your house you start with the kindling then you add to it. Your fire started when you asked the Lord to save your soul from Hell. Now it is your job to keep the fire going. How do we do that? We do that by reading the Word. By praying. By private worship  and public worship. By singing out loud. Even if you think you cannot sing, you have the DUTY to sing to the Lord. It is what He wants. If you don't then the very rocks will cry out. I don't know about you, but I do not want the rocks doing my job.

Ezekiel 24:10

When was the last time you laid a big "night log" on your Spiritual life? Do you just have embers glowing? Take the time to build your fire up. I promise you that your life will be MORE. Heap on the wood, which is the prayer, Word and worship. People say that they want Revival yet they don't want to put in the time that it takes to spend with God. Jeremiah talks about the "fire, shut up in my bones" That Holy Ghost fire burning in your life.

Don't you want that? I know I do. If you do not have that, if you don't know Jesus as your personal Savior, I invite you to ask Him right now to forgive you of your sins, and to come into your life and clean you up. He will not let you down. .....Now...if you have done that, find a Bible believing church near you and go to service. You will need people of "like minded faith". Build up the fire that He has put into you. Now....if you have been a Christian for a long time but you have only embers glowing...you CAN build your fire up again. Lay on the kindling, then build up with the wood, It can be done.

Love's First Kiss

My 3rd child got married a few weeks ago. The above picture is their first kiss EVER! Yes, you read that right. They did not even kiss each other until they were pronounced Husband and Wife by her brother.

I have told my children since they were old enough to understand about being intimate with someone to give your Husband/Wife a gift you have NEVER given to anyone. Save yourself for your spouse. Pray for your spouse now before you even meet them. God has one out there just for you that He picked out for you.

Have you saved your best for Jesus? Do you keep a part of yourself JUST for Him? We are to keep ourselves pure and ho;y. The Word says.....Be ye holy as I am Holy.....We are not to go chasing after something that goes against the Word of God. We are to STRIVE to be Holy and set apart for His service.

I know that we live in a society that says it is alright to do what ever you want.....if the Lord Jesus lives in your heart, you CAN NOT do just as you please. There is no such thing as Once Saved Always Saved. No there isn't. I have never read that in the Word of God. Don't be deceived. Keep yourself set apart for Jesus..

A real Independence Day

Since this is Independence  Weekend coming up, I want to share some thoughts with you.

We used to live in a free country. Now by that I mean, today I have to watch everything I say to make sure that I don't OFFEND anyone. If I want to talk about God, or Jesus, or the Holy Ghost, I'm expected to be careful in selecting my words so make everyone happy. How DARE I take a stand on anything Biblical? How DARE I talk openly about the Lord?

Scripture says that the Word is an offense to people. Why? It is because of CONVICTION. Pure and simple. People , even those professing to be Christians, don't want to feel conviction. They don't want to know that they are living in sin. They like it there in the pits, struggling in the miry clay. They only want to hear that God is Love.

God IS Love! But God is also a JUDGE. HE will judge you for everything you have ever done in your life. If you are born again and live a Godly life, and all your sins are covered by the BLOOD of Jesus, your actions for His Glory will be judged.

One day, the Scriptures say, every knee shall bow and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is Lord. Those whose names are written down in the Lamb's Book of Life will kneel and confess their love for Him. Those whose names are NOT found in the Lamb's Book of Life will also kneel. They will be BEGGING God to forgive them, yet it will do them no good. God is a just God.

Where will you spend eternity? Is being Politically Correct worth your soul? Is trying to keep a friend really worth your soul? Hell is a place to shun. There will not be a big party there. Far from it. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth......Fire and heat, and you will never burn up...just exist.....nothing will stop it. It will go on and on and on and on and on.......

If you have just stumbled upon this, Praise the Lord. If you don't know Him as your personal Savior, you can say this little prayer, meaning it with your whole heart.

Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I am so sorry for the things I have done. Please forgive me of all my sins. Come into my life and cleanse me and make me whole. Give me a new life in You. thank You Lord for saving me. Help me to walk in Your paths. Amen.

Now if you have prayed that prayer and meant it. You are a born again Christian. Find a church near your home and go to the first service that the doors are open.  You are to CONFESS with your mouth..meaning, you are to tell your friends and family what the Lord has just done for you.

Memorizing Scripture

When I lay down to sleep, and Scripture runs through my mind, I am comforted. I know that I have tried to hide the Word in my heart. Have you ever heard the saying, "That Scripture will be brought to your remembrance"? I have. And He does bring it to my memory. I may not remember it word for word but I know enough of it to get my point across.

I know a great man of God, by the name of Tommy Peterson. He lives down the road from me and preaches often at my church. He can quote great passages of Scripture as he is preaching. The Holy Ghost is a wonderful helper like that.

I am learning Scripture with my Sunday School Class......The older a person gets the harder it is for our brains to remember. Yet I will press on and make this old brain to do something that it CAN do.

Presence of the Lord

When I was a child I never thought I would see the year 2014. It seemed to be so far into the future. I couldn't picture myself almost 50 years old either. When I was 10 years old I just KNEW 30 was old because my father was 30 years old, and if my father was 30 years old then 30 surely was old.

As I grew up and became a Bride to my husband and Mother and now a Grandmother, I can see how fast time flies. But this is nothing compared to spending eternity in the presence of the Lord. That's right. In the very PRESENCE OF GOD.

Imagine being able to look om the face of God. Moses was the only human being that lived in the flesh that even came close to seeing the glory of God. God said that Moses couldn't see His face or Moses would die. But because Moses asked God said, "Hide yourself in the cleft of the rock and I will pass by, you can look on my back." Moses saw the glory of God from the backside of the Lord. Now imagine not having to HIDE your face from the glory of God.

When you surrender to the Lord, and let Him guide your life and be WILLING to step out and do and say what the Lord tells you to do, oh, the feeling of glory. God will bring down His glory to you. You do not have to be in a church service to feel the presence of the Lord, but it sure is much better.

Spending time with God with other people and alone...what more can you ask for? I mean really? Like that song says, I can only imagine what it will be like, when I walk by Your side. I have been blessed with a very good imagination, but I seriously don't think I can even come close to imagining  the awesomeness of the Lord.
